About Eval 42

From our base in Canmore, Alberta - surrounded by the Canadian Rockies - Eval 42 brings Swiss Army precision to the technical challenges of companies big and small. While other consultants focus on PowerPoint presentations, we’re in the code, the architecture diagrams, and the deployment pipelines.

Canmore, our home turf!

Three ways we’re different:

  1. When we say “hands-on,” we mean it: Our founder spent over a decade writing code for high-growth startups before moving to fractional CTO work. We commit code alongside your team, not just review it from afar.

  2. Network built through real products: Our talent network includes developers who’ve scaled systems from 100 to 1M users and architects who’ve designed platforms for global enterprises. We’ve actually shipped products with them - not just connected on LinkedIn.

  3. Engineering-first methodology: We design resilient system architectures and analyze performance bottlenecks. Every technical decision gets documented with clear reasoning and trade-offs considered.

Our name comes from two engineering roots: “eval()” - the function that evaluates expressions, and “42” - the answer to everything in The Hitchhiker’s Guide. Like the supercomputer that calculated the answer, we break down complex technical problems into executable solutions.

We deliver three core services with precision and depth:

  • As your fractional CTO, we architect systems, define engineering processes, and implement best practices across your development lifecycle

  • Our technical audits dissect your entire stack - from infrastructure to application code - mapping dependencies and uncovering optimization opportunities

  • For custom software, we architect and implement scalable solutions, with comprehensive test coverage and robust monitoring

From system architecture to code deployment, we combine high-level strategic vision with hands-on technical expertise. Every recommendation comes from real engineering experience, backed by a proven track record of scaling systems and leading technical teams.
